HCS SB 590 -- LOCAL TAXES

SPONSOR:  Shields (Schaaf)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Tax Policy by a vote of 16 to 0.

This substitute increases the maximum amount of property tax levy
that can be authorized by counties for the Senior Citizens'
Services Fund from five cents to 10 cents per $100 assessed
valuation.

The substitute also authorizes a tourism tax of up to 1.5% for
the City of Weston located in Platte County.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the additional amount of levy is
needed to provide services to elderly in various counties of the
state.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Cooper (120) for
Senator Shields.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
